Habitat for Humanity Tucson’s Veterans Build partners with military service members, their families and the families of the fallen to reinforce their strength and self-reliance through volunteerism, homeownership and home repair.

By partnering with Habitat Tucson, veterans have an opportunity to complete the requirements of our homeownership program and ultimately purchase a new, energy-efficient home with an affordable mortgage.

Right now – we are partnering with Victor, a Tucson Navy Veteran, to build a safe, decent, affordable home.

Victor joined the Navy on his eighteenth birthday. He got right to work and quickly promoted through the ranks in his eight-year stint in the military.

One day during a routine exercise, he felt pain in his hamstring. He would later discover that he had four degenerated discs that required four intensive surgeries to repair, which left him permanently disabled.
Victor is on his way to owning his very own home – a home that will provide safety and stability for years to come. He is excited to work side-by-side with the volunteers. “I like helping people, but when someone does the same things for me out of the kindness of their heart just blows me away,” he said. “Thank you”

Each Habitat for Humanity Tucson homebuyer will complete 250 hours of “sweat equity”, helping build their homes and the homes of their neighbors. They will also complete a homeowner education course aimed at increasing financial literacy and home maintenance skills. They will also be asked to save for a down payment. These requirements support successful homeownership among the families of veterans and military service members.
