In Memory of Bob Minton
In loving memory of Bob Minton.
Memorial service here in Tucson for Bob Minton at 6:30 pm Monday, Jan. 19, at Palo Verde Church of Christ, 651 S. Kolb.
Robert “Bob” Minton, 82, was a mainstay on the Habitat for Humanity Tucson Board of Directors for 15 years, but his start came as a bit of surprise – even to him.
Bob shared his story for the 30th Anniversary of Habitat Tucson in 2010. In the early 1990s Bob was invited to a Habitat Tucson Board of Directors meeting. “I left as a member of the Board and the Treasurer!” Bob said laughing.
Bob passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2014, after a strong 13-year fight with cancer. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Rose Minton; son Robert (Rob) Minton of Oviedo, FL; son Jeffrey Minton of Mount Pleasant, SC; grandchildren Victoria, Nicholas, Oliver, Isaac, Andrew and Austin; two brothers, Tom Minton and Frank Minton, and a sister, Jeanie Fambro.
Bob dedicated his life to the Lord, raising his sons, family values and serving his community. He was instrumental in the development and growth of several Churches of Christ in Arizona, New Mexico and South Carolina.
He served on the Habitat Tucson board for 15 years as President, Treasurer and board member. He served nine years on the board, took a year off and then returned to serve again until he moved in 2007. During that time Bob was President twice.
“The main reason I stayed so long was because I’d never seen the intensity with which the volunteers and staff worked; it was like their calling,” Bob told Habitat Tucson.
He loved to play golf and fish (even if he didn’t catch anything). Bob will be remembered by his dedication to the Lord, his consistent positive outlook on life and the impact he made on so many lives.
Bob and Rose moved to Mount Pleasant in 2007 to be closer to family. Even after he left Tucson, however, Bob would come back to visit Habitat.
“Habitat Tucson is, to me, the model for volunteers, staff and homeowner relationships.”
Help us continue the work that instilled such passion and dedication in Bob Minton. At the family’s request, in lieu of flowers please make donations to Habitat for Humanity Tucson.
Donations can be made online or by mail to Habitat Tucson, 3501 N. Mountain Ave. Tucson, AZ 85719.
