Habitat Tucson’s 400th House
Habitat for Humanity Tucson will raise the walls on its 400th house! This major milestone falls within Habitat Tucson’s celebration of 35 years serving families in Tucson, Amado, Sahuarita, Marana and Green Valley. The home is being built in partnership with the Paz Family — a local, hardworking family who will pay a zero-interest mortgage toward full homeownership.
“For us, this is a blessing,” said Elisa Paz, who said she couldn’t contain her excitement and emotions upon finding out her family would have their own home. “Every morning, I wake up and already hope that I am in the new home.”
Right now the family lives in a cramped trailer experiencing extreme heat in the summer and extreme cold in the winter.
Beyond gaining a place for their family, the Paz family added that they are grateful to be able to give back to the community and plan to continue volunteering with Habitat Tucson long after their move-in date.
“I’m learning how to build a home,” Elisa said excitedly. “I like what Habitat does. Habitat has a really big heart.”
The 400th Habitat home will be completed by the hard work and efforts of Habitat volunteers, staff, donations from the community and partnerships with future homeowners. The house also marks an important milestone in Habitat Tucson’s continuous efforts to build stable, affordable homes for families in Southern Arizona.
Since 1980, Habitat Tucson has partnered with families, volunteers and neighbors to build homes, communities and hope.
