The Connie Hillman Urban Construction Knowledge (CHUCK) Center was recently awarded the Metropolitan Pima Alliance Common Ground Award. The CHUCK is Habitat for Humanity Tucson’s innovative solution to our community’s needs for affordable housing and a well-trained construction workforce.

The CHUCK Center combines storage, classroom, and office space in a state-of-the-art facility. The CHUCK serves as a construction hub, warehouse, and training center. Located centrally in the Flowing Wells neighborhood, the CHUCK developed out of local partnerships and the unstoppable strength of neighbors.
The CHUCK Center supports increased production of new affordable homes and helps train the skilled workforce needed throughout Southern Arizona. We aim to meet the complex needs of our community with the strength of our community behind us.
Our partners have truly stepped up to undertake multiple roles not usually assigned to them. The initiative from our community partners has allowed us to create a project in which everyone wins.
By using this new, innovative space, Habitat Tucson and our partners will work together to strengthen our community.

The Metropolitan Pima Alliance Common Ground Award recognizes successful collaboration among community leaders, projects, and events for the overall benefit of the community.
We are honored to be celebrated for finding creative solutions to complex needs in the areas of land development, economic development, and community development.
Our wide network of community partners helps us create a job-ready workforce in the real-world setting of residential construction.
The CHUCK Center accelerates the production of affordable housing with strategic bulk purchases of supplies and the application of new building technologies. In addition, the CHUCK Center also offers hands-on skill building and work opportunities for Pima Community College Applied Technology Program students.
Furthermore, residential space on the grounds of the CHUCK Center houses Habitat AmeriCorps™️ interns, whom we gratefully serve alongside and support.
The CHUCK Center’s dual emphasis on the need for new housing units and the trades is vital to the long-term stability of housing and the health and safety of our community.

With your help, Habitat Tucson increases capacity within the non-profit and for-profit construction industries in Southern Arizona.
We are proud to continue serving our community and finding creative solutions to complicated problems.
We need all types of people to get involved with Habitat Tucson and build a strong, inclusive community. Please help us support the mission of providing safe, decent housing for everyone.
You can volunteer your time, share your resources, or collaborate with us on innovative projects like the CHUCK Center.
