“I decided to volunteer at Habitat because I felt like I would be able to learn something new while also making a difference,” Cristina says.
A recent graduate of the University of Arizona, Cristina has a passion for making the world a better place. She plans to continue her education in nursing and microbiology with the goal of becoming an infection prevention nurse. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, her calling feels particularly courageous.
Part of her requirements in the nursing program include completing volunteer hours in her community—and that’s when she stumbled across Habitat.
She’s loved every minute of volunteering on the build site!
“My favorite part of the construction site is seeing how much things change every time you come in,” Cristina says.
“I’ve learned so much—from landscaping to painting to installing windows. If you want to learn anything in specific, the construction site crew will help you accomplish that!”
Cristina has met several families during her volunteering, and loves to see the excitement in their faces when they talk about their future homes. She can tell she’s contributed meaningfully in making a difference in someone’s life.
But Cristina knows Habitat’s mission is only possible as a team effort.

“That’s why it’s so important that others come out to volunteer as well! It would be very difficult to do what Habitat does without all of the volunteers that come out,” Cristina says.
“While it may feel like one person alone can’t make a difference, you become part of a team that together can make a huge impact on somebody’s life.”
