Brent Tremblay

Habitat Tucson (HT): Are you from Tucson? If not, where are you from?
Brent Tremblay (BT): Born and raised in Tucson.
HT: Where are you going to school?
BT: I attend the University of Arizona and I am currently a senior. I am majoring in Public Management and Policy with a minor in Business.
HT: How did you become an intern with Habitat Tucson?
BT: Part of my requirement to graduate is to complete 120 hours doing an internship for either a government or non-for-profit organization.  I happened to have known Lynn Richards (Habitat Tucson’s Director of Accounting) for a few years and I asked her if I could intern with Habitat for Humanity Tucson (HFHT).  After a few emails and meetings I started my internship in the beginning of May and will stay for a year.
HT: How did you meet Lynn?
BT: I met Lynn while I was working at PetSmart taking care of the lovely Riley (her golden retriever).
HT: What do you hope to learn during your internship?
BT: During my internship with HFHT I hope to learn how the organization works, specifically the financial aspect.  I hope to gain experience working in an office, and knowledge of accounting software like Peachtree.  I would like to add the experiences I gain here to my resume for after I graduate and begin looking for a professional job.
HT: What kind of projects are you working on?
BT: I have been given many projects in the short time I have been with Habitat including: the job description project, weatherization project, completing homeowners forms to send to the City of Tucson, taking pictures of home dedications, Accounts Payable, bank reconciliations, leading the Habistore inventory, and assisting Lynn with various projects.
HT: How long will you be interning with us?
BT: I am only required to spend about 120 hours to fulfill my requirements, but I hope to stay for a full year to get as much as experience as I can!
HT: What is your favorite memory from interning with us thus far?
BT: There have been a few memories so far.  I have enjoyed the home dedications; I have been to about three so far.  The Habistore inventory was fun.  I was counting things at 6am. I have enjoyed getting to know the staff.  Everyone has been very kind and helpful!  Also, the best memory I will take with me is the server upgrades and how fun they have been so far!!
HT: Is there any other information you would like to share?
BT: I have enjoyed the time spent at Habitat so far.  The staff and volunteers have been very friendly and a joy to work with.  I look forward to the next few months, taking on more projects, home dedications, and other events like Building Freedom Day.  I am very happy with my decision to intern with Habitat and am glad I can be a part of such a great organization and most importantly great group of people.  I would recommend to anyone interested in volunteering to look into Habitat.  It’s a great place and its feels good knowing you are making a difference for a family in our Tucson community.  Thank you Lynn and everyone else for letting me a part of your team!
